Where should i go to college?

I want to go in North Carolina, or In Upstate New York. I plan on becomign an Admissions counselor at a college, but its highly impossible to find what is required to becoming an admissions counselor. I want a nice campus, preferably private. No one in my family has ever went to college, I will be the first. So its confusing!
